Valaikappu invitation wording

Valaikappu is the Tamil baby shower. The women of the family slip glass bangles onto the pregnant woman’s wrists, apply sandal and kumkum and bless her. It is usually held in the 7th or 9th month, often together with seemantham, and after it she goes to her mother’s house for the delivery.

The valaikappu invitation names the mother-to-be as ‘எங்கள் இல்ல மருமகள்’ (our daughter-in-law) when the husband’s family hosts, or ‘எங்கள் அன்பு மகள்’ (our daughter) when her own parents do. Then the date, time and venue.

Close with the hosting family. The function is usually followed by a lunch with several kinds of variety rice, so if you are serving a meal, say so on the card.

Valaikappu & Seemantham Invitation – FAQ

What is the difference between valaikappu and seemantham?

Can I use it for a regular baby shower?

Change the heading to “Baby Shower” and edit the rest of the wording however you like.
