Nalangu and haldi invitation wording

Nalangu is the light-hearted Tamil function before the wedding. The couple are smeared with turmeric and sandal paste, the aunts sing nalangu songs, and there are games like breaking an appalam over each other’s head or rolling a coconut across the floor. Haldi is the North Indian turmeric ceremony, and plenty of Tamil families now hold one too.

On a nalangu invitation, mention the couple, the date and time (usually the evening before the wedding, or early that morning) and the venue, which is mostly the bride’s or groom’s house.

If you want everyone in yellow, add a dress-code line. When nalangu and haldi are combined, name both in the heading so the older relatives and the cousins both know what they are coming for.

Nalangu & Haldi Invitation – FAQ

What is the difference between nalangu and haldi?

Both are turmeric rituals held before the wedding. Nalangu is the Tamil one, with songs, games and blessings from the elders; haldi is the North Indian name for a similar ceremony. The wording on the card is much the same.
