Manjal Neerattu invitation wording

Manjal Neerattu Vizha is the Tamil coming-of-age function for a girl. She is given a turmeric bath, dressed in a pattu pavadai or her first half-saree, and relatives bless her with gifts. Some families hold it within days, others wait a few weeks so they can book a hall and call everyone.

A Manjal Neerattu invitation introduces the girl as ‘எங்கள் அன்பு மகள் செல்வி. …’, gives the date, time and venue, and names the தாய்மாமன். He brings the seer, the trays of silk, sweets and fruit, so leaving his name off the card is something relatives will notice.

End with the parents’ names under ‘இப்படிக்கு’. Some families also print the grandparents on both sides.
