Annaprasanam (First Rice Ceremony) Invitation Templates

Make an annaprasanam invitation for your baby’s first taste of rice. Tamil templates use அன்னப்பிராசன விழா / சோறூட்டும் விழா wording, and the English versions call it the first rice or choroonu ceremony.

Annaprasanam invitation wording

Annaprasanam is usually done around the sixth month, when the baby is ready for solid food. Many families follow the custom of an even month for boys and an odd month for girls. The first feed is a few grains of rice with ghee and paruppu, or a little payasam, given by the father or grandfather.

Plenty of Tamil families take the baby to a temple for it: Guruvayur, the local Perumal or Murugan temple, or the kuladeivam. Others do it at home with a small pooja. On the annaprasanam invitation, give the temple or home address, the date and time, and mention lunch afterwards.

The card usually comes from the parents, with the grandparents on the last line. If the name hasn’t been announced yet, ‘our little one’ is fine.
