Naming Ceremony (Namakaranam) Invitation Templates

Make a naming ceremony invitation for your little one. Tamil templates use பெயர் சூட்டு விழா and தொட்டில் இடும் விழா wording, and the English versions cover the namakaranam and cradle ceremony.

Naming ceremony invitation wording

The naming ceremony (namakaranam) is usually done on the 11th, 16th or 28th day after birth, once the punyahavachanam has been done to end the birth theettu. Many families combine it with the cradle ceremony (தொட்டில் இடுதல்), when the baby goes into the cradle for the first time and the father whispers the name into the baby’s ear.

A naming ceremony invitation comes from the parents. It mentions the baby as ‘செல்ல மகன்’ or ‘செல்ல மகள்’ and gives the date, time and venue, which is usually home or the grandparents’ house.

Some families keep the name a secret until the function. If you are happy to share it, add it on its own line.

Naming Ceremony Invitation – FAQ

Can I write the baby's name on the invitation?

Yes. Use ‘Add text’ for the name, or type it into the child line.

Do you have designs for boys and girls?

There are soft blue, pink and neutral palettes, and you can change any colour in the editor.

Can I include the cradle ceremony?

The Tamil templates already say தொட்டில் இடும் விழா in the sub heading. Delete that line if you are only doing the naming.
