Upanayanam (Poonal) Invitation Templates

Make an upanayanam invitation for your son’s poonal. Tamil templates use the traditional உபநயன விழா / பூணூல் கல்யாணம் wording with the muhurtham, and the English versions explain the sacred thread ceremony for friends.

Upanayanam invitation wording

Upanayanam (poonal) is the sacred thread ceremony where a boy is initiated into the Gayatri mantra, usually between the ages of 7 and 12. A lot of families fix it in Chithirai or Vaikasi, during the summer holidays, so that cousins and relatives with school-going children can come.

The upanayanam invitation needs the exact muhurtham, because the Brahmopadesam happens at a fixed time. Write the boy’s name with ‘சிரஞ்சீவி’ (Chi.), then the venue, often a matam or kalyana mandapam, and the parents’ names.

If udakashanti or nandi is on the previous evening, add it as a separate line. Close by asking guests to bless the வடு (the boy) and stay for lunch.
